Immigration arrest South Korean for violating stay permit

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The officials from the South Jakarta Immigration Office took a South Korean surgeon Kim Byung Gun into custody for allegedly violating his tourist visa in order to open a consulting practice, without seeking official permission.

"Kim Byung Gun had opened a medical practice Gandaria in South Jakarta without obtaining the requisite permission and approval," state Head of South Jakarta Monitoring and Enforcement Immigration Office Bambang Permadi here on Monday.

Bambang noted that Kim Byung Gun usually practiced in the BK Hospital, Gangnam, Seoul, South Korea.

Meanwhile, South Jakarta Head Section of Supervision and Enforcement Immigration Office Anggi Wicaksana added that Kim is just running a medical consulting practice.

Anggi remarked that Kim offers consultation to patients on facial surgical operations performed in the hospital where he practices in the South Korea.

Kim charges around three thousand to 4.5 thousand US$ for consultation and surgery costs, Anggi added.

According to the duty officer, Kim admitted that he will only be there for two or three days in Indonesia and then plans to visit another country for another consulting practice.

"According to Kim, he has been running this practice since 2013 using a tourist visa," noted Anggi.

Anggi pointed out that Kim should have been obtained his consulting license from the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration and the Ministry of Health in order to open a practice and consultation here in Indonesia.

With regard to Kim abusing his tourist visa, he has violated the Law No. 6 Year 2011 on Immigration, which entails five years of imprisonment or a fine of Rp500 million or deportation.
