REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- Lion Air plans to open international flight routes from the Riau Islands provincial city of Batam and direct domestic flight routes to eastern Indonesia, stated Lion President Director Rusdi Kirana.
"We will open international routes from Batam's Hang Nadim airport to Hong Kong, India, Jeddah, China, and Thailand," Rudi noted here on Monday.
Rudi believes that the destination countries offer potential routes that can be operated from Batam for Lion Air. We will immediately work on finalizing the flight schedules to these destinations.
Currently, the Hang Nadim airport serves as a Lion Air base for operations of flights connecting western Indonesia to the other regions of the country, Rusdi pointed out.
In addition, the Lion Air will open direct domestic flights to Papua and Bali, as it has already commenced flight operations to Balikpapan in Kalimantan.
Apart from that, Rudi also emphasized that the Lion Group will focus its efforts on developing new routes that it has recently opened.
"We will focus on developing the existing airlines by adding new routes," he remarked.
At present, the Lion Group owns several airline companies such as Lion Air, Wings Air and Batik Air in Indonesia, Malindo Air in Malaysia, and Thai Lion in Thailand.
