REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TANJUNGPINANG -- A Mongolia-flagged tanker MT Awang Bazao GT 500 ran aground in the Berakit Bintan waters of Tanjung Berakit rafting, Bintan District, Riau Islands, an official stated.

The tanker ran aground on the coral reefs in the Malang Berdaun area, exactly 1.5 miles from the mainland or in the coordinate Berakit 01" 14 N and 104" 32 E, noted Chief of the Tanjungpinang Search and Rescue (SAR) Abdul Hamid here on Wednesday.

"The nine crew members of the stranded ship were found in good condition and the ship was not leaking," Hamid remarked on Wednesday night.

According to him, the SAR team tried to evacuate the ship's crew because the tanker (ship) is not foundered in a tilted position.
