Jokowi praises the security during Christmas eve in Jakarta

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Governor of Jakarta, Joko Widodo or popularly known as Jokowi saw that christians observed Christmas eve mass in Jakarta peacefully and safely. Nevertheless, he asked the whole congregations to remain cautious during their activities.

"We ask all Jakarta residents who celebrate Christmas to keep on guard," Jokowi said on Wednesday.

Jakarta Provincial Government has ensured to secure all activities in churches, especially in some cathedrals on Tuesday and Wednesday. Jakarta Police Chief, Insp Gen Putut Eko Bayuseno said that police would continue to secure Christmas Day on December 25, 2013.

"There are 5,800 joint personnel deployed to secure Christmas," Bayuseno said.

The joint security involves police officers, military, civil servant police unit and also fire and disaster management personnel. In another occasion, Senior Commissioner Rikwanto, a spokesman of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police also praised the religious festivity as it went well and peacefully. 

"The situation during Christmas Eve was conducive. There was no disturbance or act of terror," Rikwanto said on Wednesday.
