VP Boediono encourages local government to develop marine tourism

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALU - Vice President Boediono asked to regional administrations to continue in developing marine tourism in order to improve peoples welfare.

"We hope the sail programs will be continue and the local administration could promote the event," Boediono said in his speech when celebrate Archipelago Day 2013 here, Sunday.

There are three events of Sail Indonesia, derived from Sail Bunaken, Sail Wakatobi and Sail Raja Ampat. He hoped the marine tourism could develop creative economy on the coast area and improve the welfare of fishermen.

VP also called the "blue economy" concept could be implemented further to encourage small, tourism and home industries which involving low-income communities. Blue economy is expected to strengthen the management of marine potential which is sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Boediono visited Palu and accompanied by his wife and several ministers to celebrate the Archipelago Day 2013. Boediono and the entourage also watched the parade of warships, skydiving attractions, and local arts.

The Archipelago Day 2013 was held since December 10, 2013 by displaying a variety of arts and sports activities including swimming competition in Palu Bay, dragon boat race, kite competitions, marine seminars, and the hoisting of the giant flag.
