REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAKASSAR -- As many as 126 personnel from the army infantry battalion 700/Raider of the Wirabuana regional military command on Indonesia's Sulawesi Island will join a United Nations peace mission in Sudan in April 2014.
"More than one company of our personnel will be posted in Sudan," stated commander of the infantry battalion Lt. Col. Dody Tri Winarto, here on Friday.
Deputy Commander of the infantry battalion Maj. Kharisma C.K. noted that one company from infantry battalion 700/Raider personnel will join the infantry battalion 721 contingent in Sudan.
"We will be stationed in Materi, Darfur, which, according to the UN, is the most dangerous operation area," explained Kharisma.
He added that the personnel of the infantry battalion 721 contingent will be trained at the Indonesian Peacekeeping Center (PMPP) in Sentul, Bogor, West Java, for a month before they leave for Sudan.
"The materials for the training will include the organization of the UN and the condition of the operation area in general," he added.
The infantry battalion contingent will later join a 650-member army contingent and a 150-member air force and naval contingent, he stated.
"In Sudan, we will replace the Nigerian contingent that has been pulled out," he noted.
Kharisma also confirmed that the 800-strong Indonesian military contingent, which will depart for Sudan in April 2014, will be Indonesia's first task force for the UN peacekeeping mission in Sudan.
"We will be ready for any conditions and risks," he stated.
