REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, jAKARTA- A commuterline departing from Serpong collided with a fuel truck in Bintaro railway crossing on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013. Until monday evening, ten were reported dead including the train driver and a commuter's staff. While dozens others are injured and undergoing medical treatment in some hospitals.

Regional Chief of PT KAI, Isnadi, stated that the truck trespassed the railway crossing gate. "The truck driver was the one to blame because he trespased the crossing gate," Isnadi said in a press conference later  on Monday.

The statement contradicted with the earlier statement from the commuter lines administrator company, Eva Chairunnisa. She said the accident occured due to malfunctioning gate at a railway crossing

"The crossing gate malfunctioned," she said, adding that the malfunctioning gate had enabled cars and trucks to freely cross the road without being aware of the trains approach.

The front wagon of the commuter train, heading to Jakarta from the Tangerang Province, derailed and caught fire after it hit a fuel truck on Monday at 11.15 am. A witness, Fransiska Ninditya, said that the fire was followed by a thick black smoke, which took place soon after the train had hit the fuel truck near Bintaro. The wagon was mostly occupied by female passengers.

"The passengers are still panicking. I too have a headache from inhaling the thick smoke," Fransiska stated.
