REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- The West Java provincial administration said it supports President Joko Widodo's plan to build train double track between Bogor and Sukabumi to meet growing demand for mass transport in the province.

"President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) unveiled the plan to construct the double track which will start this year during his visit to Sukabumi earlier this month," head of the West Java Transport Service Dedi Taufik said here on Tuesday.

Dedi said the West Java administration certainly welcome the plan to build train double track between Bogor and Sukabumi and the reoperation of the idle rail track of Sukabumi-Cianjur-Padalarang.

He said so far railway transport has been needed for passengers as well as for cargoes.

Earlier President Jokowi said the government would build a number of transport infrastructure projects in Sukabumi including train double tracks.

Jokowi said work would start this year to build the double track estimated to cost Rp400 billion.

In addition, the government will revitalize the old track of Sukabumi-Cianjur-Bandung in 2019 to facilitate the flows of goods and passengers from Jakarta or Bogor to Sukabumi, the president said.

He said the government also plans to build a pioneer airport in Sukabumi, adding the government will survey the location.

He said the construction of Bogor-Ciawi-Sukabumi toll road is to be completed in the next two years, adding , construction of the toll road has been delayed from 1996.

"Therefore I decided that state company took over the project and now it is under construction," the president said.
