REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH -- Three Acehnese fishermen, while still in a state of shock, were rescued by Marshall Island-flag cargo ship MV Al Gharaffa, after being adrift for three days in the Indian Ocean when their boat's engine failed.
"The three fishermen, Saiful Hadi (28), Yufrizal (31) and Suriadi (45), are from Bireuen District," confirmed Ibnu Haris, spokesperson, National Search and Rescue Agency, here on Thursday.
The ship's captain, according to Haris, noted that he had rescued three fishermen on Wednesday (Dec. 4) at 03:30 p.m., while the boat was left in the ocean.
After the rescue, the cargo ship's captain and the SAR team met at a rendezvous point in Aceh Island's waters, five nautical miles from Banda Aceh.
The fishermen were brought to the meeting point at around 12 a.m. local time and were picked up by the SAR team in two speed boats.
After arriving in Ulee Lheue Harbor, Banda Aceh, the three fishermen were handed over to local authorities and the Red Cross.
