Indonesian-Canadian Islamic Universities strengthen ties

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, VANCOUVER - The Comparative Research Center and Culture of Muslim Communities at the Simon Fraser University (CCSMSC-SFU) Vancouver, Canada, agreed to strengthen cooperatioan with the state Islamic universities of Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta.

Secretary General at the Minister of Religious Affairs, Bahrul Hayat PhD, met the Indonesian consul general in Vancouver Bambang Hiendrasto, Director of CCSMSC-SFU Dr Derryl MacLean, rectors of the state Islamic universities of Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, respectively Prof DR Jamari Makruf and Prof DR Musa Asyari. They met in SFU campus recently to discuss follow up of their cooperation. 

Bahrul Hayat who led the Indonesian delegation to the interfaith dialogue would offer cooperation in education program such as regular workshops, exchange program of researchers as well as students exchange activity.  Prof DR Jamari said further that the interfaith dialogue should be publicized among younger generation because they normally do not understand the historical back-ground of conflict, violence and differences in the past.

More than 50 members of the dialogue, including from Canada, also visited a number of places of worship such as churches, mosques, temples and synagogues in Vancouver and surrounding areas through  evening local time, this week.
