REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MILAN -- Ex-Inter President Massimo Moratti believes Erick Thohir has the same passion he had in the past.

Moratti had been at the helm for almost two decades, though his father Angelo was in charge during the 1960s.

He handed over the baton to Indonesian investor Thohir, selling 70 per cent of the club and ceding the role of President.

“The love story between Inter and the Moratti family started more than 50 years ago with my parents,” he told Rai News 24.

“My father became a fan of the club thanks to my mother, who took him to see Lazio-Inter in Rome. From that day forth, he was a supporter.

“I believe I made the right decision, as the moment arrives when you see yourself forced to leave the future in the hands of someone who has the same passion you had in the past.

“Times change and Thohir has all the qualities needed to do well in modern football. He is very active, works hard and is also a great communicator.”

Moratti mused on the fact Internazionale are now truly an international club.

“I said Italy had to emerge from their shell. We ended up with a foreign President, so perhaps I went overboard! In my view there are no foreigners: for me Javier Zanetti is Italian, Ronaldo was Italian. They do everything necessary to elevate an Italian club.

“The most difficult moment was the final signature. That was not easy. Of course the happiest moment was winning the Champions League. What will I do now? Find something that fills me emotionally.”
