REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jimly Asshiddiqie, a state law administration expert, has hailed President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's decision to recall Indonesia's ambassador to Australia.

"President Yudhoyono's decision is correct. We need to teach Australia a lesson," Asshiddiqie said on Wednesday.

The recalling of the ambassador will make Australia think several times before conducting wiretapping activities in the future, he remarked.

Meanwhile, President Yudhoyono has ordered the suspension of several cooperation programs with Australia, following allegations that Australian intelligence agencies wiretapped the private cell phones of Indonesian state officials.

"I want them to be suspended until everything is clarified. We are unlikely to resume these programs until we are certain there was no wiretapping," President Yudhoyono noted after a meeting with Indonesian Ambassador to Australia Najib Riphat Kesoema, here on Wednesday.

The cooperation programs that have been suspended include the exchange of intelligence information, joint military exercises and military operations to curb human trafficking, he confirmed.

The president said he would also review other areas of cooperation with Australia.

In the future, there must be a code of conduct and guiding principles to establish cooperation with Australia, he added.

"The protocol must be binding, clear and workable," he stressed.
