Govt launches a traceable system to reduce horticultural smuggling

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ministry of Agriculture launched the Single Sign on Quarantine and e-Services Integrated Licensing. The traceable system is introduced as part of Indonesia National Single Window (INSW) and its main goal is to reduce agricultural smuggling, especially horticultural products.

"With this integrated service, the essential elements of services will be transparent, accountable and cheaper," Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Hatta Rajasa said on Monday.

Hatta explained that importers or exporters could know their documents process. Kinds of goods, which can be imported or exported is also recorded in this system. It will improve efficiency and effectiveness of agricultural business process in port. The establishment of an integrated permit electronic service between Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Trade, which will be connected to INSW, shows the government commitment to give transparent and accountable services to public.

The existence of e-services intended to improve speed of processing. It will minimize time and cost, improve validity and accuracy of data and information, monitor instrument for all services. Thus, Indonesian agricultural products become more competitive and implementation of trade preference will be more controllable. Smuggling of horticultural products can be overcome.

Head of Quarantine Agency in Ministry of Agriculture, Banun Harpini said that government allocated 500 million to 600 million IDR to fund the traceable system. This system already provides for all agricultural products with focus on importation of horticultural products.
