REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Asian Football Confederation (AFC) commented about quantity of Asian investors to acquire foreign football clubs.
The last one, Indonesian entrepreneur and owner of Republika daily, Erick Thohir acquired shares of Inter Milan by 70 percent.
AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa said the phenomenon was something pretty good.
However, he said, its impact cannot be felt directly in Asia because, Asian football and European have typical differences.
He said, Asian investor's decision to invest in European clubs should be able to benefit local football. The aspects of their business, he saw, can also help to develop the country's potential in terms of football, especially in Asian countries.
"Regarding the acquisition of Inter FC by Indonesian entrepreneurs, it has nothing to do with me as President of AFC. I think, as a whole, the clubs in Europe prioritizes stability in the financial sector, which in turn owned by many parties, including investors from Asia," Al Khalifa said during an official visit to Indonesia, Saturday (16/11).
