REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Port of Batam Center and Sekupang are proposed to be immigration center for Batam, Bintan and Karimun, which are also special economic zone in Indonesia. Head of Batam Immigration Office Class I, Yudi Kurniadi said that Sekupang was better than Batam Center as there was currently eight immigration check point (TPI).

"TPI is a sea port to transport passengers in Batam Center, Sekupang, Harbour Bay, Marina Teluk Senimba, Nong Sapura, two cargo ports in Batu Ampar and Kabil, also Hang Nadim airport," Kurniadi said recently.

The traffic in eight TPI can reach 1.2 million people in 2012 and Batam Center is the most crowded. To overcome the limitations of current human resources, Kurniadi has asked operator to prepare auto gates in Batam Center.

Sekupang port serves only crossing to Singapore with tariff of 30 SGD for Indonesian citizens and 35 to 38 SGD for foreign citizens. Batam Centre serves crossing to Singapore and Malaysia.
