Govt asked to be realistic about negative investment list

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Industry, MS Hidayat asked that government should be realistic to revise design of negative investment list (DNI) in a Presidential Decree No. 36/2010 concerning the business sector that closed or opened with a capital investment requirements with promoting national interest. He said that there were some sectors that needed foreign investment to be opened with some reasons.

"In my opinion, we must be realistic. There are some sectors that require more open foreign investment as it need high technology and capital," Hidayat said recently.

In China, Hidayat added, they opened a large sector to foreign investment, but under extra guard. It is what is not yet conducted in Indonesia. Hidayat said that an investment should use technology transfer and put people in certain position.

President and government will be careful in doing revision of Presidential Decree. Presidential Staff, Firmanzah said that the revision was still under discussion, so that sectors what would be changed still reviewed.

"Obviously, President will be careful to revise the regulation based on some aspects," Firmanzah said.

First, closed and opened investment must follow provisions of existing sectoral. Second, it must be related to national interest.
