Din: Muhammadiyah TV station not related to 2014 election

Pimpinan Pusat Muhammadiyah menggelar jumpa pers peluncuran tvMU.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Persyarikatan Muhammadiyah will launch a TV sation called Television Muhammad (tvMU) on Monday (18/11).

Chairman of Muhammadiyah the second largest Muslim organization in Indonesia after Nahdhatul Ulama (NU), Prof. Din Syamsuddin said the launching of tvMU nothing to do with the Indonesia's general election in 2014.

"TvMu made for the long term purpose, not the short term," Din Shamsuddin said at a press conference at the House of Da'wah Muhammadiyah Jakarta, Thursday (14/11).

Din added, there may some people will correlate the launch of tvMU with General Election and Presidential Election issues.

"Muhammadiyah had no intention of setting up the television for election purpose," he said.

Din asserted, Muhammadiyah remains active in politics, but politics with value, not practical politics. For Muhammadiyah, tvMU is a means for preaching, including in the political context.

The presence of tvMu, Din said, is as a form of preaching as well as support for community services, and not for political purposes.

With the tagline "Smart and Brighten, Muhammadiyah hope tvMu will produce positive effects to audiences.
