REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A number of entrepreneurs and cultural experts have launched the Cultural Preservation group for Kota Tua (Old City) of Jakarta dubbed as Jakarta Endowment for Art and Heritage (JEFORAH) here on Tuesday.

The group is a consortium which is formed to develop Indonesia's capital city of Jakarta especially the revitalization of the old city area which is located in West Jakarta.

"As Jakarta residents we realize that the development of this city is also in our hands and not rely on the government alone,"

Chairman of JEFORAH Board of Trustee, who is concurrently president director of PT Jababeka Tbk SD Darmono said in a press conference.

Darmono said the Kota Tua revitalization program is a kind of collaboration which is supported by private sector, state-run enterprises and the Jakarta provincial government.

"Apart from that in the future, we also hope there will be other working groups, who involve stakeholders and people groups in taking care of the Jakarta Old City," Darmono noted.

In the next six-month period namely in March 2014, firstly the groups will set three short-term targets i.e. the revitalization of a park of Taman Fatahillah.

Secondly, is to conduct the re-adaptive usage of Fatahillah post office. The building will be used as the visitor center and Jakarta Museum of Contemporary Art.

Thirdly, to conduct the Kota Tua Fiesta at the Fatahillah Square, among other things the performing arts, culinary festival and the people's party.

"Previously, we have met with state enterprises minister Dahlan Iskan to conduct coordination related to the revitalization of state-owned buildings in the Old City area," Darmono said.

The organizational personnel structure of the JEFORAH includes SD Darmono as chairman of the Board of Trustee, Gunawan Mohamad as chairman of the Advisers Board and Djalil (Former Minister of SOEs) as a member of Advisers Board of Institutional Relations.
