REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA -- Taman Pintar (literally means Smart Park) in Yogyakarta is now more complete than before as travel vehicle for children is now equipped with an earthquake zone, climate and weather.

New zones are inaugurated in educational tours by Mayor of Yogyakarta, Haryadi Suyuti and Head of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Andi Eka Sakya on Friday.

"This is the first time BMKG making a climate zone and weather," Sakya said.

The establishment of new zones is because visitor's demand, which is dominated by students. Sakya said that the agency wanted to educate visitors about how the disaster happened, how to handle it and what kind of system.

Indonesia is known as area that has various disasters, such as tornado, flood, earthquake and landslide. The incident of fatalities is often caused by lack of understanding about the causes of disasters and ways of treatment.

Therefore, BMKG provides earthquake simulator visual displays. The simulator is capable of displaying the original earthquake shocks, such happened in Yogyakarta on May 27, 2006. Visitors are learning about climate weather and tsunami.

Suyuti added that Yogyakarta could not hide from potential disasters, such as earthquakes and eruptions of Mount Merapi and extreme water disaster.

"We are very grateful to encourage people about early warning system when disaster is occurred," Suyuti said.
