REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SALATIGA -- Impact on ban attractions of masked monkey which will be implemented in Jakarta next year has been felt in some areas. The street buskers began to seek their fortune outside capital city, such as Salatiga, Central Java.

Last week, some masked monkeys are found at a red light in Salatiga. One of them is Panji (20 years) from Tasikmalaya, West Java. He said that he went to Salatiga with his friends after their conveniences are disturbed by Governor of Jakarta, Joko Widodo.

"We go to Salatiga because there is no prohibition for monkey street attractions," Panji said last weekend.

Panji said that he had never received a warning about the new rule of Jokowi. The man who worked on monkey attraction for eight years said that the rule was a threat to sustainability of his livelihoods. While in Jakarta, he explained that monkey attractions was one of his livelihoods. He was able to get income of 50 thousand to 75 thousand IDR per day.

Social observer of Kristen Satya Wacana University in Salatiga,  Sri Suwartiningsih said that masked monkeys looked for new land that was very opened for their existence. Usually, they will select the new one when government just bans without provides a solution.

"Jakarta Provincial Government may provide a solution to buy their monkeys to be placed at Ragunan zoo. But, what's about the street buskers? Is government can provide new jobs for them?" Suwartiningsih said.
