REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that the recently inaugurated oil fields in Forel and Terubuk, Natuna, Riau Islands, are an important and historic milestone in the effort to achieve national energy self-sufficiency.
“These two projects are important milestones, historic milestones in our joint efforts to achieve national energy self-sufficiency,” Prabowo said in remarks from the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Friday (16/5/2025).
Through a video conference link directly connected to the inauguration site in the waters of Natuna, Riau Islands, the President affirmed that achieving energy self-sufficiency is vital to the nation's sovereignty and independence.
By achieving energy self-sufficiency, according to Prabowo, Indonesia can save tens of billions of US dollars, prevent the flow of hundreds of trillions of rupiah abroad, and strengthen the national economy so that more funds can be enjoyed by the people.
The Head of State also stressed that energy self-sufficiency is just as important as food self-sufficiency. If a nation is able to meet both strategic needs, then it will be strong, not easily disturbed by outsiders, and able to survive in a variety of conditions.
“If a country is self-sufficient in food and energy self-sufficiency, that nation will be very strong. That nation cannot be bullied by other nations and will survive in the face of any circumstances,” the President stressed.
On this occasion, President Prabowo expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the entire team involved, including the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, SKK Migas, Medco Energi, as well as all those who have collaborated and worked hard to bring this project to fruition.
President Prabowo inaugurated the inaugural oil and gas production from the two Forel and Terubuk project fields located in the waters of Natuna, Riau Islands, on Friday afternoon.
He welcomed the project as the first oil and gas field inaugurated in his reign.
“At noon today, Friday, May 16, 2025, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, inaugurated the first production of the Forel and Terubuk oil fields. Thank you, good luck, freedom again! ” exclaimed the President.
