Indonesia, South Korea target to achieve 100 billion USD trade

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA--Vice Minister of Trade, Bayu Krisnamurthi expressed his optimism on trade values between Indonesia and South Korea that it would have reached 100 billion USD by 2020. He was convince that Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between two countries would help to achieve the target.

"I understand this target is quite ambitious, yet achievable. We can employ CEPA's platform to reach our goal. Hopefully, we can sign mutual agreement in the near future ," Krisnamurthi said recently.

Korea has stated its interest to invest in electronics and IT sector in Indonesia. "Korean investors even want to step further in technology, automotive, steel, infrastructure, trade, logistics and retail," he said.

Krisnamurthi expected economic cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea could further develope, especially in trade and investment. About 40 years ago, he said, Indonesia and South Korea were unoticed players, but now, both were recognized as global economic power and affecting world economy.

Currently, volumes of trade between Indonesia and South Korea have increased more than 20 per cent in the last five years. Indonesia's exports to Korea in the first half of 2013 reached 5.8 billion USD.
