Indonesian teen earns Diana Award 2013

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LONDON - An Indonesian teenager, Adeline Tifaani Suwana (16 years) was awarded the International Diana Award 2013 from British Prime Minister David Cameron. The award was presented to Suwana through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and British Embassy in Jakarta.

First Secretary of Indonesian Embassy in London, Heni Hamida said Suwana was second teenager after Christy Zacharias who also got the same award last May. Suwana organized about 150 classmates to plant mangroves in Jakarta coastal areas and preservation of coral in waters of Pulau Seribu.

Suwana's progress in environmental protection was started since 2008. She formed Sahabat Alam and pioneered movement of natural and environmental protection in the region. Suwana even managed to make television footage and recorded songs with theme of environmental preservation solicitation in Indonesian language and English.

Diana Award was given since 1999 as a tribute to young people aged 9-18 years who have contributed positively to community and international environment. Diana Award winner obtains a certificate of appreciation is signed by Prime Minister David Cameron and Diana will be part of Network used to work together in order to improve environments internationally.

Suwana previously won the first place award in the EFL Championship Debate among students worldwide. She also won World Schools Debating Championships in Turkey, also Eco-Friendly (2009), an international event that selects children aged 8-16 years who are significantly have role to preserve environment.
