VP Boediono: Don't contradict Quran with culture

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - In his opening speech, Vice President Boediono said to Muslims that Quran as revelation of Allah (God) could not be contradicted with local culture.

"It is important to understand the meaning of Quran, and we cannot contradict the holy book with local culture," Boediono said recently.

Boediono said dialog must be maintained between Quranic values and local culture. The Muslim's holy book should be interpreted as the asnwer to contemporary problems. Indonesia 2nd International Competition of the Holy Quran Recitation on September 11-15, 2013 in Jakarta. 

At the same occasion, Minister of Religious Affairs, Suryadharma Ali expressed his hope that the 2nd International Competition of the Holy Quran Recitation will increase standard of the participants. The participants can strengthen Islamic brotherhood among them.

The international event is attended by 21 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Tunisia, Al Zajair, France, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Jordan, United States, Malaysia, Iran, Quwait, Netherland, Sudan, Timor Leste and Indonesia as the host. Previous year, same event was held in Malaysia and Indonesia won the first champion.
