REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - State owned electricity firm, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will build a biomass power plant with capacity of 2x1.5 mega watt (MW) in South Sorong, West Papua. President Director of PLN, Nur Pamudji said the power plant would use sago trees with capacity of 100 tonnes per day.

This power plant will be built through subsidiary of PLN, PT Prima Layanan Nasional Enjiniring with investment of 120 billion IDR. PLN will supply its electricity to sago processing plant owned by Perum Perhutani, state owned forestry company, and also for community.

"Its investment is about four million USD per MW or more expensive than diesel generators which is only 0.6 million USD per MW. However, its operating cost is much cheaper," Pamudji said in a signing of memorandum of understanding with Perum Perhutani recently.

President Director of Perum Perhutani, Bambang Sukmananto said build a project in Papua was quite challenging, especially in social issues.

"I am grateful, we can solve the problems with all tribes," Sukmananto said.
