A Malaysian may face imprisoned and fined for insulting Indonesian flag

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Malaysian businessman, Frederick Chin who insulted Indonesian flag would face maximum of five years in prison and maximum fine of 500 million IDR. Head of Public Information in National Police, Com Agus Rianto said that Chin had been detained since August 21 as he had committed serious offense.

"For his action, he has also been named as suspect and detained. Though he was a foreigner, but his actions allegedly has violated state constitution," Rianto said recently.

Chin intentionally insulted Indonesian flag on August 16, 2013. Chin compared Indonesia flag as an underwear when he said it was not important to rise Indonesian flag. He called Indonesian flag as red and white panties. 

His employees at PT Kreasijaya Adhikarya then reported him to Dumai Police. Police then immediately secured Chin to conduct an investigation into motives words of the Malaysian citizen.
