REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PURWOKERTO - Minister of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Dahlan Iskan asked a state owned forestry company, PT Perhutani to build a sago factory in Papua to restore food sufficiency in that region.

"I asked Perhutani to build the first sago factory in Papua. Currently, Papuan people get the sago supply from Java," Iskan said on Friday.

Papua needs sago factory since. Yet, electricity shortage has become the main classical problem in the region. To overcome the problem, the ministry plans to use biomass from unused sago palm trees as fuel to produce electricity. Papuans usually extract sago from the inner part of sago palm tree. After the extracting proces, the outer part of the tree can be used as firewood.
