Kalbe Farma to build two milk plants

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - One of Indonesia's largest pharmaceutical firms, PT Kalbe Farma plans to build two new plants to meet demand of dairy nutritional products. Two plants will be built in late 2013 and early 2014.

Director of Finance at Kalbe Farma, Vidjongtius said company already had a milk plant which produced liquid milk products and milk powder. Two new plants would increase production capacity to be doubled.

"Nutrition division contributes 25 percent of company sales. Both plants are predicted to produce in 2015," Vidjongtius said on Friday.

Milk powder plant will be built in Cikampek, West Java on area of five hectares. Construction is expected to be implemented in early 2014. The addition of milk powder plant will increase production, from 12 thousand tons to 25 thousand tons per year.

Liquid milk plant will be built in Sukabumi, West Java on area of five to eight hectares. Construction will begin in fourth quarter of this year. Both new plants will spend 450 billion IDR, consist of 150 billion IDR for liquid milk plant and 300 billion IDR for milk powder plant.

Especially for plant in Sukabumi, Kalbe Farma and a milk-based beverage producer, PT Milko Beverage Industry make a joint venture company, PT Kalbe Milko Indonesia. Kalbe Farma controls 51 percent of shares.
