REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR - The State Logistics Agency (Bulog) has delayed to import beef this year due to the difficulty of getting permit, according to State-Owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan. Iskan said here on Saturday that his office actually hoped the imported beef could have arrived before the Ramadan holy month on July 10.

He added Bulog had actually proposed permit on April or three months before Ramadhan. "But the permit did not come out quickly. The permit was just issued nearly in Ramadan," he said.

"Bulog now is urged to import the beef quickly, but it is unlikely to buy the beef today and these would come tomorrow," he added.

The minister said that the permit matter is such a problem that has always been faced. "We could have avoided the high inflation while Ramadan came while beef prices rose, fuel prices increased and children entered school, but the permit did not come out" he said, adding that the goverment kept to maintain inflation.

Previously, Bulog had wanted to supply 800 tons of frozen beef from Australia through plane so that these beef could get into the market quickly. "Bulog had provided information to bring 800 tons of frozen beef with using air transport," said Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan here on Friday.

Gita said 800 tons of frozen beef were part of the total allocation Bulog`s quota to 3.000 tons of frozen beef that the importation was aimed at operating in market to stabilize the prices. "The supply through air will take two or three days, while that for the rest 2.200 tons will be shipped," Gita said.
