REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - National Human Rights Commission asked the world to condemn the military coup against the legitimate and sovereign government in Egypt. Commissioner of National Human Rights Commission, Maneger Nasution assess the military coup is a betrayal of the democratic values that have become the universal norms.

"I regret the United Nation's double standards through its Secretary General about the coup in Egypt. Ban Ki moon lets a coup in Egypt and saw it as a freedom of speech. It's different when a military coup in Niger in 2010 where the European Union, the United States and France supported Niger to speedily restore order according to the Constitution," Nasution said on Sunday.

In 2012, UN condemned the military coup in West Africa, Mali. The White House also condemned the military seized power from the civilian leadership of the country. Nasution said the Western countries also glorified democracy but in the case of Egypt, they was only silence.

Indonesia should play an active role to create a world order as mandated in the 1945 Constitution.
