REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Jakarta residents need to be on alert against heart disease, known as number one killer in the city. Head of Jakarta Health Department, Dien Ernawati said high activities and unhealthy lifestyle made heart disease easily attacked the population.

"For that, provincial and city government has taken various preventive and promotive activities, like providing 347 health centers and 17 hospitals," Ernawati said on Saturday.

Based on data, number of people that attacked by hypertension in Indonesia is more than 75 million people or every four adults, one who has risk of heart disease. From 237 million population in Indonesia, there are 6.6 million babies were born and 48,800 of them have heart disease. Most people in Jakarta have life expectancy at 76 years for women and 74 years for men.
