REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA - Mayor of Surabaya, Tri Rismaharini insisted to take over the Surabaya Zoo, East Java on July 1, 2013 since the zoo drew international attention.

"When I visited Berlin, Germany, world animal lovers in the city regretted the bad management of Surabaya Zoo," Rismaharini said on Sunday and added that those animal lovers encouraged her to manage the zoo.

Public have raised concern over the taking over procedure since the process needs a decree of Ministry of Forestry as legal base. But the mayor asked the management of Surabaya zoo to hand over the management authority to local government in the first week of July despite no-decree.
