REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesia and Vietnam signed an extradition treaty between the two countries at the State Palace in Jakarta. The agreement was signed by Minister of Law and Human Rights Amir Shamsuddin and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, Pham Binh Minh.

The signing was witnessed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and President of Vietnam, Truong Tan Sang. The signing was held after bilateral meeting between the two countries during the state visit of Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang to Indonesia on June 27-28, 2013.

"The two countries also signed an agreement, mutual legal assistance, related to criminal matters. The signing of legal agreement also marks the growing relations between Indonesia and Vietnam. Both countries want to cooperate in good faith to combat transnational crimes. Indonesia and Vietnam also want justice to prevail in the two countries," Yudhoyono said on Friday.

President Truong Tan Sang said the signing was a strong signal between the two countries to continue to enhance cooperation in all sectors. Indonesia and Vietnam also want to improve bilateral relations to strategic partnership. So, this will be an umbrella for closer cooperation between Indonesia and Vietnam. The two countries also signed a memorandum of understanding in agricultural sector.
