REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA -- Other countries highly respect Indonesian diplomacy, said Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi. Through its foreign policy, Indonesia has consistently contributed to global peace, humanity and welfare, she noted.
"They respect our free, active and dignified foreign policy, which upholds the principles and values contained in the UN charter," she said, after receiving the Herman Johannaes Award at the Gajah Mada University (UGM) campus here on Friday.
Indonesian diplomacy is recognized, both at regional and global levels, she said.
"Indonesia always wishes to be part of problem solving, and not to be part of the problem," she added.
In addition, Indonesia's foreign political track record has increasingly become apparent in the world arena, particularly in conducting peace and humanitarian diplomacy, she said. Indonesia has actively assisted Palestine, Afghanistan, Myanmar and Bangladesh in solving humanitarian issues, and cooperated with other countries in eradicating radicalism and terrorism.
"Indonesia has been actively taking part in interfaith dialogues and disseminating a peaceful and tolerant Islam," she said.
She noted that the diplomacy is conducted not only by diplomats, but also by all components of the nation. Thanks to support from the entire nation, Indonesia will take its seat as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020.
