REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Suriname invites Indonesian national team, Garuda, for an international football friendship match. In Suriname, Garuda team will commemorate the arrival of Javanese people from Indonesia to the country.
Chairman of Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI), Djohar Arifin Husin said the invitation directly sent by Surinamese Football Association. "We agree to visit Suriname and have a match there," he said on Tuesday.
Indonesia has special connection to Suriname as many Indonesian descendants live there, especially Javanese who have settled for generations since 100 years ago.
According to Chairman of Surinamese Football Association, there are approximately seven percent Suriname Javanese people who live there. They also maintain their ability to speak Java language.
On other development, Garuda is going to play on a friendship football match with Dutch national team at Bung Karno Main Stadium Jakarta on June 7, 2013. In addition, some British football clubs would also come to Indonesia, namely Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. The three elite clubs in Premier League will play sequentially from June to July.
