Indonesia's Electric Car Users Skyrocket! Homecoming Season Data Shows

There's a 460 percent increase compared to last year.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The number of users of four-wheel electric vehicles in Indonesia nationwide during the period of Ramadan-Idulfitri (RAFI) 2025 increased dramatically compared to last year. This was conveyed by an official in BPH Migas neighborhood, Sentot Harijady BTP during the closure of the national post of ESDM sector in the RAFI 2025 period.

He explained that the use of electric cars for homecoming this year reached 19,752 units. Previously, in 2024 it was at 4314 units. “There is a 460 percent increase compared to last year,” Sentot said, during a press conference at BPH Migas Office, Jakarta, Friday (11/4/2025).

He continues when viewed by region, the highest EV (electric vehicle) user in DKI Jakarta. Then the lowest in Bengkulu, Gorontalo, North Maluku. The increase in EV users is in line with the number of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU).

During the RAFI 2025 period, Sentot said, the SPKLU had 3,558 units available. This figure is much more than in 2024, which is 1,229 units. The increase was 274 percent.

“And the highest is DKI Jakarta, while the lowest is in the Riau Islands,” said a member of the RAFI Task Force who serves as the Director of BPH Migas fuel.

Then the SPKLU transaction also increased dramatically up to 490 percent. The breakdown is 17,192 transactions in the toll section, and 66,596 transactions in the non-toll section. “And the growth of electric charging amounted to 2,029,889 kwh or 581 percent compared to last year with the highest number of transactions on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, 994 times,” Sentot said.

It ensures overall supply of the energy sector is adequate during RAFI 2025. Be it fuel, LPG, also electricity. The Geological Disaster Emergency Response Team is also working well. They monitor and respond to any catastrophic events, being on standby for 24 hours.

“We are grateful (the assignment of) the national post of the ESDM Sector can go well and smoothly, people can enjoy homecoming without the constraint of scarcity in the energy sector,” Sentot said, closing his statement.
