Rattan furnitures from Cirebon gain popularity in Japan

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIREBON - The artisans in the north coast of Java, especially in Cirebon, claimed that their furnitures made of rattan with natural color were very popular in Japan. Chairman of Association of Indonesian Wood Furniture and Rattan (AMKRI), Sunoto said each country had different taste of designs and colors. 

"Demands for furnitures made of rattan with natural color are pretty high so we have to add more creations and continue to develop many design and motifs," Sunoto said on Thursday.

The furniture export is expected to rise by holding various exhibitions in a number of European countries, America and Africa. The rattan furniture's export volume is targeted to reach 3,000 containers of furnitures in 2014.

Arif Fadila, a rattan enterpreneur said the demands in Japanese market were quite excited. The Japanese customers are very interest in minimalist models and natural colors. Orders of rattan furniture exports to Japan and Italy bounch back after government banned to export raw materials that made downstream of rattan became passionate.
