REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LONDON - Two Indonesian movies, 'Sang Penari' or 'The Dancer' and 'Rectoverso' will be screened at 'the Cannes Film Festival 66' in France from May 15 to 26, 2013. Head of Sub-Directorate of Film Festivals and Exhibitions at Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Molly Prabawaty said both films would also played in the European Premiere, Antipoedes, Cannes Cinephile 2013.
"Sang Penari tells the story about a dancer named Srintil and is starred by Prisia Nasution. This film is an adaptation of the novel trilogy 'Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk' by Ahmad Tohari, from Banyumas, Central Java." Prabawaty said on Tuesday.
The movie, directed by Ifa Isfansyah, was about a man and his friendship with a ronggeng dancer in his village, Srintil. The movie focuses on the spreading communism and government quelled members of Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) in 1965-1966.
While 'the Rectoverso' is an omnibus film or Indonesian anthology with nuance of love which was released on February 14, 2013. The film is adapted from a novel by Dewi 'Dee' Lestari which was released in 2008. 'The Rectoverso' consisted of five stories about the multiple facets of love.
