REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Chief Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa said that the new finance minister who would be installed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono would come from the professional circles.

"The new finance minister will not come from the political parties but from the professional circle," Hatta Rajasa said after accompanying the President during a consultation meeting with the leadership of the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Monday.

When asked whether the new finance minister is a women or a man, Hatta said the new finance minister would be a man. He denied rumors that the Deputy Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Drajat Wibowo had been assigned as the finance minister.

"It is not true that Dradjad Wibowo has been tipped as the new finance minister. He is now in Europe for an assignment," Hatta said.

The media has mentioned a number of names of persons who are suitable for the finance ministerial position, among others, Investment Coordinating Board Chief Chatib Basri, Bank Indonesia Governor Darmin Nasution and Deputy Finance Minister Anny Ratnawati.

A number of media publications have mentioned Chatib Basri as a strong candidate for the finance ministerial post. Yudhoyono has assigned Hatta Rajasa as acting finance minister after he discharges Agus Martowardojo as finance minister. Agus has been elected to be governor of Bank Indonesia (centra bank).
