Indonesia launches new vaccine of bird flu

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Ministry of Agriculture launches a new vaccine of bird flu, H5N1 clade 2.3.2 strain Sukoharjo on Thursday. The vaccine will be distributed immediately in Java, Lampung and South Sulawesi.

"We will distribute to areas in need," Director of Animal Health at Minister of Agriculture, Pudjiatmoko in Jember.

At the begining, government will launch three million doses of vaccines then increase the production once the demands increase. Vaccines produced at one of the acting unit at Directorate General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health namely Farma Veterinary Center in Surabaya, East Java. 

The production used chicken eggs' embryo that was brooding for six days. Price of an egg's embryo reached 20 thousand IDR, and one dose worth 310 IDR. It needs 1 billion IDR to produce five million doses of vaccines. Government allocated 9.9 billion IDR to producting the vaccines, higher than 5.3 billion IDR in last year.
