REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesia and Tatarstan, a state under Russian Federation, agreed to boost cooperation in energy and industrial sectors. The deal was secured in a meeting between the Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa with the President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in Jakarta on Thursday.
Tatarstan is known rich of natural resources, such as petroleum, rocks and sandstones. "Tatarstan also has advantages in petrochemical industry and machine assembly," Rajasa said on Thursday.
According to Hatta, the development of petroleum energy will be conducted at upstream and downstream sectors, while cooperation in machinery, transportation and chemical industries will be prioritized. Indonesian government also proposed to open an office in Tatarstan.
According to data obtained by Indonesian, Indonesia and Russia have doubled trade in last five years. In 2008, total trade between both countries was worth 1.66 billion USD and increased to 3.37 billion USD.
