REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TUNIS - Indonesia and Tunisia agreed to boost cooperation in agriculture and animal husbandry. The agreement was made in a meeting between Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Suswono and his Tunisian counterpart, Mohamed Ben Salem on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Salem presented opportunities of cooperation in agriculture, fisheries, and marine, as well as animal husbandry from Indonesia.

"Tunisia needs machines to process residual waste or olive oil processing for animal feed," Salem said and added that that Indonesia had developed the technology.

Suswono added that Indonesia would send machines and also some agriculture experts to Tunisia. “Tunisia also plans to increase imports of palm oil from Indonesia in order to meet its domestic demands, because palm oil is cheaper than soybean oil,” he said.

Currently the middle class Tunisians use soybean oil for cooking. Salem said both sides would sign the agreement in Indonesia, during his visit in June or July 2013.
