REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Philippines eyes Indonesia and some other countries as potential markets for sugar. Deputy Director General of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Emmanuel Esguerra said the country committed to maintain its exports in 2013.
"We also identified South Korea, India, and Middle East as potential markets," Esguerra said on Tuesday. Philippines International Trading Corp has contact with buyers in each country to fulfill for their needs.
According to stastitical data of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Indonesia and India were two major importers of raw sugar and sugar cane. Philippines Central Bureau of Statistics recorded that exports of raw sugar and refined sugar as well as bananas grew by 27.094 percent and 95.5 percent (year on year) in February 2013.
Esguerra explained that Philippines needs to accelerate some policies to improve the competitiveness exports and to take some advantages of regional and global integration.
