REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NUSA DUA - The Speaker of the House Representives, Marzuki Alie, supports Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) to chair Democratic Party. Marzuki Alie who sits in the party's advisory board, is also touted as a candidate of the party's chairman replacing Anas Urbaningrum.

"If party members want SBY to become the chairman, I certainly will support him," Alie said in one occasion.

Democratic Party will hold extraordinary congress on March 30-31 in Sanur, Bali. Alie said he backed elite members of the party to support SBY as the chairman since SBY was a realistic choice.

Alie said that he had never been prepared as the chairman of the party. "We must support whoever chosen as the chairman," he said.

Deputy Secretary General of Democratic Party, Ramadhan Pohan, echoed Alie' position. "This may not be an ideal choice, but at least it's realistic," Pohan said.

Pohan believes SBY's function as the chairman will not conflict with his position as the president of Indonesia. He said that SBY was consistent, taking care of the party only when he was off duty. "When he's loaded with presidential works, he can delegate the party's affairs to secretary general or deputy secretary general," he said.

In other development, there an issue od "war text" between SBY and Alie. SBY was reported expressed his dissappointmen over Alie's meeting with some party's cadres.
