Indonesian giant flower to be exhibited in S. Korea

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR - Indonesia, through the cooperation of Bogor Botanical Gardens and Goyang International Flower Foundation, will send the giant flower known as "Titan Arum" of Amorphophallus titanium Becc, the largest unbranched inflorescence in the world to South Korea to be exhibited in international horticulture fair.

The blooming flower will be exhibited in Indonesia pavilion from April 27 to May 12, 2013. The Head of Service and Information Subdivision at Bogor Botanical Gardens, Sofi Mursidawati, said the event was the perfect time to exchange technology on flower preservation.

"We are having a hard time on preserving plants, especially the big one. We usually cut the giant flowers into several pieces and preserve it. If we have the technology, we can present a whole flower," she said on Wednesday.

The titan arum that will be sent to Korea is divided into three - two spadix and petal. The pieces will be re-arrange in South Korea. To prevent from withered, the 75 x 225 centimeters flower will be coated with eight tonnes silica gel.
