ICW among top 24 transparency and good governance think tanks

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - A non-governmental organization, Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW), sits on number 24 on the list of Transparency and Good Governance Think Tanks based on international survey conducted by Think Tank and Civil Society Program initiated by the Faculty of International Relations of Pennsylvania University.

"We thank to the public and other parties cooperating with ICW in working against corruption," Coordinator of ICW, Danang Widoyoko, said on Thursday in the press release.

The cooperation, through research and campaign, with anti-corruption organizations has increased the public awareness on anti-corruption action. It has been started since ICW was formed in 1998.

The survey involved 1,950 academicians, public and private donors, policy-makers and journalists around the world to rate more than 6,500 think tanks using 18 criteria. The rankings are aimed to improve the profile and performance of the think tanks while emphasize the importance of their works for government and people in around the world.

Think tanks are organizations that generate policy-oriented research, analysis, and advice on domestic and international issues in an effort to enable policymakers and the public to make informed decisions about public policy issues. Think tanks may be affiliated with political parties, governments, interest groups, or private corporations or constituted as independent non-governmental organizations (NGOs). These institutions often act as a bridge between the academics and policymakers, serving the public interest by providing independent opinion that translates applied and basic research into a language and form that is understandable, reliable, and accessible for policymakers and the public.
