REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian Ministry of Industry prepares nine industrial sectors to face ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015. The nine sectors are agro business, fisheries, textile, and its products, footwear, leather and its products, furniture, food and beverage, fertilizer and petrochemical, machinery, and steel and metal.
"Those industries are our priority because it can compete with products from other ASEAN countries. We also enhance other seven industries to secure our domestic market," Minister of Industry, MS Hidayat, said on Wednesday.
Minister mentioned that the seven sectors are automotive, electronics, cements, clothing, footwear, food and beverage and furniture. "Government must conduct cross-sectoral policy to face AEC 2015," he added.
Government must intensify the socialization of AEC 2015 to industrial stakeholders, propose the acceleration for the implementation of protection and anti-dumping, facilitate research lab, develop the competency of industrial human resources, draft Competency Standard National Working Indonesia (SKKNI) and develop new entrepreneurs, he explained.
"While for those primary industries, we will prepare the program and policy to boost the competitiveness," he said.
AEC 2015 is the important momentum for Indonesia as it gives broad opportunity to expand market for domestic products. Yet, AEC is also a challenge. "We may be target market for products from other ASEAN countries," he explained.
