REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir said that 1 million homes to be built by Qatar are housing for low-income people. Erick explained that the construction of 1 million houses is part of the 3 million house program initiated by President Prabowo Subianto.

“Yesterday the Qatari side was interested in building 1 million houses for people's homes, so not high-end homes yes,” Erick said, in Jakarta on Thursday.

To realize the plan, Erick said again, it would certainly require adequate land. According to him, the Ministry of state-owned enterprises owns land located in the railway area.

Residential developments in the region, have the concept of residential transit oriented development (TOD), which is integrated with the station.

“We're open to whether with the concept of TOD on the side of the train that we've got, we're on the verge of making eight TODs. Well, this can be done, please work it out, and then also some SOE land that is actually located in the middle of the city,” he said.

Earlier, the Governments of the Republic of Indonesia and Qatar agreed to cooperate and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the housing sector related to the funding of 1 million dwellings for low-income people (MBR).

The signing was witnessed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and was conducted between Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait and Qatari investor Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al Thani, at Istana Merdeka Jakarta, Wednesday (8/1).

The funding was done through a Government-to-Government scheme between Qatar and Indonesia. Making Qatar the first overseas investor to take part contributes to the fulfillment of President Prabowo Subianto's priority program of building 3 million homes for MBR annually.
