VW plans to build full manufacture in Indonesia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Volkswagen (VW) Indonesia, PT Garuda Mataram Motor (GMM), plans to build full manufacture in Indonesia in the next four or five years. 

"It is not easy to build a manufacture. We need to study and calculation so that the VW production in Indonesia can contribute to VW sale in the world," President Director of PT GMM, Andrew Nasuri, said on Monday. He added that expert team from Germany would ensure the supplier that VW had strong market in Indonesia.

VW has prepared 60 hectare areas in Karawang, West Java, for the manufacture. The company is currently looking for spare part supplier and partnership with local industry. "About 40 percent of the components will be local," he said.

In 2012, VW sat on number 3 as the world's biggest automaker after Toyota and General Motors. The car maker choose Indonesia as it focusese on Southeast Asia market and particularly Indonesia..

"VW sales in China is good, but we missed footprint in Southeast Asia and Indonesia who has potential market," he said.
