REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU - Low-cost airline, Mandala Air, takes over all routes of Batavia Air after the airline was declared bankrupt by Jakarta Court on January 30. Immediately after the decision, Batavia Air ceased operation and  abandoned hundreds of passengers.

"Mandala Air officially acquires Batavia Air and will be operating today. It is a solution for the abandoned Batavia Air's consumers," Retail Sales Manager of Mandala Air, Made Lesmana, said on Friday.

Each person who already bought Batavia Air tickets can fly with Mandala Air as long as they report to Mandala counter and bring their ticket. A day before, dozens of people and travel bureau came to Batavia Air representative office in Pekanbaru to ask for refund. However, the office was closed.

Jakarta court considered PT Metro Batavia, the operator of Batavia Air, bankrupt as it failed to pay its debt. Metro Batavia failed to pay leasing fees worth 4.688 million USD upon deadline on December 13, 2012, to the International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) for a fleet.
